BRIGHTON, GREAT BRITAIN
Simon Weller
is a 37 year old train driver, trade union activist and motorcycle lover, that can’t make his peace with the privatisation of British Rail, the former state owned and run railways in Great Britain. Simon fights for his colleagues who have been facing more and more unbearable pressure from their private employers over
the last years. Pressure, that has already lead to several accidents. When asked who won and who lost through rail privatisation in Britain, his answer is clear:
“The banks and money market profited in the short-term because they took the money from the government. It was free money. Who lost? In the long-term the communities and society that allowed it to happen, that allowed the railway and the services to be run down and destroyed for profit. And it’s not over yet. People believed the myth of privatisation. And have been proved so sadly wrong over recent years.”
